Spotify for Artists: How to Claim Your Profile and Use Every Feature

AudiencePlan

Spotify for Artists is Spotify's free app and website for musicians. It shows who's listening, lets you pitch new songs to Spotify's editors and gives you control over how your profile looks. If you have music on Spotify and haven't claimed your profile yet, it's the first thing you should do.

Here's how to claim your profile and get the most out of every feature.

What is Spotify for Artists?

Spotify for Artists is a free dashboard (on the web and as a mobile app) for artists and their teams. It's where you:

  • See your streams, listeners, followers and audience data.
  • Pitch unreleased songs to Spotify's editorial team.
  • Edit your bio, photos and Artist Pick.
  • Add Canvas videos, Clips and Countdown Pages.
  • Invite your manager, label or collaborators.

How to claim your Spotify for Artists profile

  1. Make sure you have at least one release live or scheduled on Spotify through your distributor.
  2. Go to Spotify for Artists and log in with your Spotify account (or create one).
  3. Choose to get access to an artist profile and search for your artist name.
  4. Verify that you are the artist, for example by connecting your social accounts or using your distributor's fast-track access.
  5. Wait for approval. Distributor fast-track is often instant; otherwise it can take a few days.

Don't have music out yet? Start with our guide on how to upload your music to Spotify.

Set up your artist profile

  • Profile and header images: high quality and in line with your current release.
  • Bio: short and specific. Mention your genre, where you're from and recent highlights.
  • Artist Pick: pin a song, playlist or event to the top of your profile with a short message. Update it with every release.
  • Artist playlists: playlists you create can appear on your profile. A playlist of your influences or your own catalogue gives fans more reasons to visit.
  • Social links, concerts and merch where available.

Pitch your new songs to Spotify's editors

This is the most valuable feature for most artists. For each upcoming release, you can pitch one unreleased song to Spotify's editorial team. You must pitch at least 7 days before the release date, but 3–4 weeks gives editors more time to listen. Even if editors don't playlist it, a pitched song is delivered to your followers' Release Radar. Read our full Spotify playlist pitching guide.

Understand your stats

  • Listeners and streams: totals and per song, over different time ranges.
  • Followers: the people who get your new music in Release Radar.
  • Source of streams: whether people find you through your profile, their own library, other listeners' playlists, or Spotify's editorial and algorithmic playlists.
  • Saves: one of the clearest signs that listeners actually like a song.
  • Audience location, age and gender: useful for targeting ads and planning shows.
  • Real-time stats for your latest release.

Check these numbers after every campaign. If a promoter delivers streams from countries you didn't target, with no saves or new followers, that's a warning sign. Learn more about how to spot fake music promotion.

Visual features that boost engagement

  • Canvas: a short, looping vertical video that plays behind your track. See our Spotify Canvas guide for specs and ideas.
  • Clips: short vertical videos on your profile and tracks where you can talk directly to fans.
  • Countdown Pages: a pre-release page where fans can pre-save and preview an upcoming release, for eligible releases. Read our pre-save campaign guide.

Paid and opt-in tools

Depending on your eligibility and market, Spotify for Artists may also offer tools like Marquee, Showcase and Discovery Mode. Marquee and Showcase are paid placements inside the Spotify app. Discovery Mode lets you flag songs for more algorithmic recommendations in exchange for a lower royalty rate on those streams. Check the current terms in your dashboard before using them.

Add your team

Never share your login. Instead, invite your manager, label or collaborators and give each person the right level of access, such as admin, editor or reader.

A simple weekly routine

  1. Check new listeners and followers, and which sources of streams grew.
  2. Update your Artist Pick if something new is happening.
  3. Look at where your listeners are and adjust your ad targeting.
  4. Pitch your next release as soon as it appears as upcoming.
